INDEPENDENCE — Olivia Shockley pitched a 2-hit shutout April 17 and the George Wythe Maroons handed the Grayson County Blue Devils an 8-0 setback in a Mountain Empire District softball game.
Shockley, who has an ERA of 1.40, struck out 10 and walked two in the win.
While the Maroons were silencing the Grayson County bats, Andrea Pannell was taking care of the hitting. She slammed a pair of 2-run homeruns, one in the second inning and the other in the sixth.
Carrie Shupe and Jadliah Phipps had the two hits for the Blue Devils (2-9).
The Maroons are 7-0 and averaging 10 runs a game.
In another non-district game played that day, Fort Chiswell beat Richlands 9-2.
